Robin Ritsema Claims Gold at State
After third place finishes at state the past two seasons, Robin Ritsema finally got that
elusive jump, clearing a personal best and school record of 5'6" to win the 3A gold medal in
the high jump on Saturday. Teammate Kaylee Line finished fourth with a jump of 5'2".
Kaylee also ran in the 100 meter hurdles, but failed to qualify for the finals. In the boys long
jump, Lakin had three jumpers. James Pettz finished third with a jump of 20' 8 1/2", Jeff
Gilleland finished 10th, and Ryder Yakel failed to place after fouling on his attempts.
Gilleland competed in four events on the day, running in the 100 meters, but did not place,
and capped off his busy day, finishing 6th in the 200 meter dash. The 4x100 relay team of
Luis McPherson, Jeff Gilleland, Clay Michel, and James Pettz finished 5th.
In other events,
Freshman Talan Jamison was 6th in the 1600 meter run,
Aaliyah Jones finished 9th in the
girls pole vault
, and Clay Michel ran the 110 meter hurdles and the 300 meter hurdles but
did not place
.
