Broncs Win Overtime Thriller, Lady Broncs Lose to End
Season
The Lakin Broncs began Sub State on Monday with a 73-67 overtime win at Haven. The Broncs, the
fifth seed in the tournament were led by Alex Perez, who hit seven three pointers, six coming in the
first half on his way to a game-high 28 points. Ryder Yakel followed with 18 points. The game was a
back and forth affair as neither team could build bigger than a six point lead. Lakin trailed 59-57 with
three seconds to play in regulation and had the ball on an inbounds play. A technical foul on the
inbounds gave Lakin a chance to tie as Ryder Yakel hit both free throws. Ian Shelden's shot at the
buzzer missed the mark to send the Broncs to overtime. In overtime, senior Pancho Klassen took
over, scoring 8 of his 12 points and Yakel hit 4 free throws to seal the win. Free throw shooting was
key for the Broncs as they hit 2
1 out of 27 chances. Yakel went 9 for 11 while Perez was 7-8. Lakin
advances to Friday's semi-final at Chaparral against either Cheney or Cimarron. Game time is not
known at this time.
The Lady Broncs saw their season come to an end Monday night with a 62-37 loss at Haven. Lakin
got off to slow start and trailed 16-5 after one quarter. The Lady Broncs then started the second
period on an 11-0 run to tie it at 16  before a 13-3 Haven run to end half put the Lady Broncs in a hole
they couldn't climb out of. Robin Ritsema led Lakin with 12 points as Mariah Watkins added 9. Five
Lady Bronc seniors, Mariah Watkins, Kayla Swank, Jordyn Crum, Molly Morgan, and Mollie Calderon
saw their careers come to end with loss. Lakin finished the year at 11-9.
