|Broncs Lose Heartbreaker in District Opener
The Lakin Broncs returned home Friday night to begin District play but fell in a heartbreaker, losing to Cimarron
38-36. Cimarron jumped out a 14-0 lead before the Broncs got on the board. After forcing a Cimarron turnover,
Caleb Seeger hit Matt Armstrong with an 11-yard pass to get the Broncs on the scoreboard. The extra point was
good to make the score 14-7. Lakin again forced another Bluejay turnover on their next possession and Lakin
wasted no time cashing in with Seeger hitting Armstrong for another score as the Broncs tied it up at 14-14 going
to halftime. The second half would prove to be a back and forth contest as Lakin would take their first lead in the
third quarter 36-30. Lakin scored three times in the quarter on a 2 yard run by Seeger, a 65 yard Seeger pass to
Armstrong, and a 15 yard run by Wyatt Burnett. Cimarron scored once more and with the 2-point conversion led
38-36 with just over six minutes to play. Lakin drove to the Cimarron 12 yard line before turning it over on downs in
a controversial ending. Lakin had 371 yards of total offense, led by Seeger who finished 15 of 23 for 309 yard and
three touchdowns. Caleb also added a score on the ground. Matt Armstrong pulled in 8 passes for 169 yards and
scored three times. Wyatt Burnett totaled 39 yards rushing with a touchdown. The Broncs will continue district play
at Scott City next week.
